Barefaced & Confident
Dear babes,
I want to take this time to tell you how beautiful you all are. With or without make. It took me many years to be able to realize a lot of things that I will be touching on below. One of those being, beauty is not only skin deep.
As a teenager, I had horrrrrible skin. That brought my self confidence down a lot. Like every teenage girl going through the same hormonal changes, it was a 'normal' thing to have acne. But, for me it was totally not okay. So I decided to raid through all of my moms make up...and thats where it all began. I would pile on so much foundation, powder, cremes, literally everything, onto my face thinking it would hide my imperfections. The more I did that, the more my skin got worse. Now, you might be thinking, "Well duh jamie, I knew that." but my point is, with or without make up I still felt so ashamed. The hidden pain and insecurities made me act mean, more defensive and less of who I really am. It was only when my dad said "when are you going to stop painting your face and realize what beautiful truly means". So that night, under the Friday Night Lights of our football game and in front of all my peers and the crowd, I walked to the sidelines, holding my pom-poms and head high; barefaced and confident.
Being young, its hard to know right from wrong. The Pressure of going to school and seeing your friends the next day even if you have a huge mountain on the center of your face doesn't help much either. Same goes for many young woman who having to balance a job, social life, and school. And theres me, who's late nights at the studio and early gym sessions don't really leave much time for 'me time'.
